What is Health Anxiety?

Health Anxiety often develops when we think there may be a threat to our health which then triggers an anxious response.  This leads to a heightened preoccupation with body sensations and health-related worries.

Most of us will experience health worries during our life and seek medical investigation, routine health checks and reassurance.  However, some people become very pre-occupied with the state of their body and are tormented by worries regarding the development of disease or illness despite medical investigation and reassurance. 

When should you seek help for Health Anxiety?

Health anxieties and health worries become problematic when they are happening too often, are out of proportion to the chance of actually having a serious health problem, are persistent despite health checks and reassurance from your GP, lead to obsessive checking and reassurance seeking plus avoidance and cause you significant distress.
