Depression and suicide

It’s a sobering fact, but three in four suicides are carried out by men. What’s clear is that men are very vulnerable to pressure, emotional distress and more troubled by issues of status, competence, power and aggression.

Hiding your emotions and pretending to be ‘strong’ and competitive greatly contribute to significant health issues in the long-term and discourage many men from seeking help when they most need it for fear of appearing weak, vulnerable losers. Fortunately, more and more men are seeking help and seriously questioning these unhelpful gender expectations and the distorted unhelpful caricatures of masculinity syringed into our lives via social media and mainstream culture.

What kind of issues?

We deal with a variety of different problems such as anger, trauma, communication, managing emotions and relationship issues plus coping with difficult life events, such as bereavement and abuse. Since every person has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, we prefer to approach each person and problem individually, adjusting the therapy to what works best for you.
